CarneySweeney secured planning permission for the demolition of a former Evangelical Church and development of a boutique hotel including coffee shop and community space in Cathays, Cardiff.  Cathays' proximity to the city centre and buoyant student population makes the area a popular place to visit.  The hotel provides 17 rooms and ground floor uses across 4 storeys.  It lies a short walk from Crwys Rd and Albany Rd centres on the South Wales Metro route.  The multi-use space will be a welcome local venue to the Cathays community.

A considered design by the project architects (Connections Design) delivers a high-quality scheme to the corner plot, whilst being sympathetic to the surrounding built context.  The development book-ends the terrace, while standing broadly the same height as the former church building.   The design delivers a 'blue roof' for on-site sustainable drainage.

CarneySweeney coordinated a consultant team and lead negotiations with the local planning authority, working closely with officers to secure a swift permission.
