Uskmouth, Newport

CarneySweeney's Cardiff office is instructed by Private Energy Partners to provide planning advice and services in support of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at the former Uskmouth power station in Newport.

The site has permission for up to 230MW electricity storage, making it one of the largest-scale developments of its kind in Newport. The site uniquely benefits from access to existing electricity infrastructure, associated with its former power station use. The BESS development will assist with balancing electricity supply and demand to support the grid.

Our work has involved various amendment applications to vary the original permission and the discharge of conditions. We are working closely with the client, LPA and consultant team to incorporate new ecological enhancements, new battery technologies, and use of the existing railway network to progress the scheme towards implementation.
