Afon Wysg (AW2) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Uskmouth

On behalf of Ampeak Energy, CarneySweeney led a multi-disciplinary team to coordinate and deliver a full planning application for a third Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the Uskmouth Sustainable Energy Park in Newport — formerly the coal-powered Uskmouth Power Station.

This landmark project forms part of the site's transformation into a hub for clean, sustainable energy. The AW2 BESS scheme delivers critical infrastructure to support the UK's energy future, repurposing underused industrial land into a centre of innovation.

The site's existing electrical infrastructure made it an ideal location for energy storage.  CarneySweeney managed the delivery of a robust, policy-aligned proposal that unlocks the site's potential and contributes meaningfully to the UK's clean energy transition, with planning permission granted just four months from submission.
